Psalm 119:11
I have stored up your words in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11
Here is where the psalmist begins to turn and get real with himself and God. He knows he falls short. He knows that God’s way is a better way. And he knows he is sinful and unable to keep the law. But God is faithful…
This verse is like the first mile marker of the long path that Psalm 119 has for us all. With this verse, we know we cannot uphold the truth stated in this verse “I have stored up your words in my heart…” but we are willing to start. We see the mission ahead. We see what is required from an all-perfect Father. And we start.
We start because the grace of God has been freely given to us by our Father through The Son who in the Gospel of John is called “the Word”. So, we begin with storing up all we know about Jesus in our hearts, and we feed on more of “the Word” every day.
We know that being conformed in the image of Jesus is the only way forward. We need the Word. We need it stored up in our hearts. We need more than ourselves to be free of sin.
Psalm 119 begins to point out this path for each of us. We do not walk along. We walk alongside the one who is call “the Way. He is Truth. He is Life.
The Psalmist has more verses like this for us to wrestle with. “Come Lord Jesus” that we might store up more of you in our hearts; that we might not sin against you.
