Psalm 119:24

Your testimonies are my delight; they are my counselors. Psalm 119:24

Where does a counselor receive their counsel. It is ultimately from the testimonies found in God’s Word.

It is so very important to remember that our counsel comes from God’s counsel. We are like children repeating what our Father has taught us. Sometimes it is simple. Other times, we deeply pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance and direction, for words and stories and for word-picture and illustrations. We want the Holy Spirit to direct us to how the gospel speaks to an individual’s circumstances.

In scripture we find wisdom. We find truth. We find grace.

The job of the counselor is to point individuals away from the flesh and to the Spirit. This sounds simple but there could be a good bit of complexity that must be gone through in order to land on the simple truth of the gospel.

We delight in the the testimonies of God because they are the counsel to our lives. God has set boundaries for our good and His glory. Sometimes the boundaries are wide and spaceous. Other times, we are hemed in with little to no option. But it is always good and perfect according to the will of our Father.

How can Burke Care walk alongside of you as you rediscover delight in God’s testimonies? How can we meet with the Holy Spirit to hear His counsel?

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me." John 10:27 ESV

Heavenly father, I spend much of my adult life sowing to the flesh. It seems there is much for me to unlearn. Help me turn from the desires of the flesh and turn to your good and perfect will. “Your kingdom come. Your will be done.”
