Psalm 119:41

Let your steadfast love come to me. O Lord, your salvation according to your promise. Psalm 119:41

Our Heavenly Father is so gracious. As His adopted children, he freely provides us steadfast love in the present, salvation from the past, and promises for the future. Through Jesus, my problems are fixed even before I know what my problems are.

“Let your steadfast love come to me…” Today, I need grace. Navigating this fallen, broken world will demand grace today. My Father’s love is timeless and is more than enough.

“O Lord, your salvation…” My past sins have been covered at the cross. My life has been redeemed from the pit of hopelessness. My life has been placed on the firm foundation of Jesus.

“…according to your promise.” The memory of past grace and the experience of present grace gives me courage in anticipation of future grace. Our God is the same yesterday, today and forever.

I read early on that “grace is courage.” This verse points us to this courage when dealing with the difficulties of living in a fallen, broken world. If grace is courage, then courage brings hope. And that hope is in the one who is the author of grace. We do not put our hope in the things of this world but in the things that last for eternity.

That is why we can speak of things like “steadfast love, salvation, and promise.” The natural world is fleeting and falling away. But eternity will last forever. Revelation 21 & 22 speak of “a new heaven and new earth.” This is our end; this is our hope.

This verse reminds us that God is the main character in our story and Jesus is our hero. This is God’s grand story of redemption, and we play a small part. It is humbling to think that God allows us to take part in His ultimate redemptive work that culminates in Jesus’ return for His bride, the church. What an amazing story of grace.

God do not allow me to shrink down Your world into my understanding. Keep me humbled and in awe of all that You are and all that You do according to your promises. I put my faith in Your character today even if I do not fully understand my circumstances. Today I choose grace which translates to courage. Amen!

Application Questions:

  1. Where do I find myself feeling anxious, lacking courage to move forward?

  2. What do I run to outside of God when life’s circumstances press in on me?

  3. Where do I need God to “help my unbelief” this week?
