What Keeps You Up At Night?

“At midnight I rise to praise you, because of your righteous rules” – Psalm 119:62

The question really is, “what keeps you up at night?”.  Is it stress, worry, fears?  These common experiences seem to stir us quite easily out of the deepest sleep.  But what about praise, joy, desire?  Does not a child struggle to sleep on Christmas Eve, anticipating the gifts and celebration of the following day?  Oh, how much more should children of God, with appetites whetted for the return of their beloved Savior, be stirred from their sleep to praise Him!

Yes, we may find rest for our bodies in sweet slumber, but the son or daughter of God knows that only in the embrace of their Father’s Word will they find rest for their souls.  What a remarkable sign of adoption into God’s family!  The child, so enthralled by and longing to experience the heart of their Father, that even rest in the form of sleep is interrupted.  The most delightful dream doesn’t hold a candle to the delights of being in His presence.  Have you ever found yourself stirred out of sleep and compelled to praise God or read His Word?  Pray He might give you this gift on occasion.

“does not a son take pleasure in reading his father’s will and testament, in which he bequeaths his estate to him?  A Godly son shows his love for his Father in the delight of His Word…the child who loves his Father, is never so well as when he is near his father” – Thomas Watson
